Description of Sea-buckthorn Fishnet, planting and care for it
Beauty and usefulness - these are two words that can describe the sea buckthorn. Having planted a plant in its infield, it will not only become its decoration, but will also give a supply of vitamin C, which is so necessary for the human body.
As for the description of this variety, it is not very different from its relatives. When transplanted, the plant grows similarly to the donor plant from which it is cultivated. It grows in the form of a bush that spreads its branches in different directions.
Important! This variety has no needles, which is one of its advantages.
Branches bend in a semicircle. They have a light brown color with a gray coating. The leaves are large, green, linear, the plate is curved. Fruits are cylindrical in shape, bright orange in color. The mass of berries is approximately 1–1.2 g. The length of the fruit stem is 5–6 mm. Berries ripen in the late summer - in August. It tolerates winter frosts well.
The first berry crop can be expected in the 4th year after the seedling has been planted in a permanent place. In the 6th year after planting, the yield is approximately 0.58 kg m², and subsequent years approximately 0.7 kg / m². The data are calculated when planting four seedlings per 2 m of plot length.
Origin of the variety
In 1987, scientists of the M.A. Lisavenko Research Institute of Horticulture in Siberia cultivated a new variety of sea buckthorn, which was called Openwork. In order to remove it, seedlings were selected from free pollination of the elite form 87-72-6a (From Shcherbinka-1 x Katun ecotype).
Did you know? Sea buckthorn was the first drug used in the treatment of victims of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
Such breeders as E.I. Panteleeva, T.M. Pletneva, T. Chepurnova, V.V. Kurdyukova, K. D. Gamova worked on the creation. Approved until the assessment and testing of crop varieties in 2001.
Sea buckthorn is best planted in a remote place, on soil that is not cultivated. For example, near walkways, fences or buildings. Because the the root system grows widely in a circle from placewhere the seedling is planted and are close to the surface, when cultivating the land, they can be injured, which will make the bush weak.
It is better to plant sea buckthorn in an area where there is a lot of light. The plant does not tolerate the shadow, it has a bad effect on the ripening of fruits. Areas with acid or clay soils are not suitable. But if there are no other options, then you need to plant a seedling on an elevation and attach it with a rope to a peg.
The root system must be sprinkled with fruitful soil every year, this will help him to take root in a new place. It is better to plant in the middle of autumn (October) or in the spring (April). Seedlings planted in April take root much better.
Important! Part of the plant, which is located above the surface of the earth, grows slowly, since the roots primarily develop.
Manure and double superphosphate should be added to the part of the plot where later the sea buckthorn will be planted. This is best done in the fall. In the soil, which will be filled with the roots of the bush, you can mix wood ash. Planting sea buckthorn is as simple as other plants that bear fruit.
To do this, you must:
- Dig a recess measuring approximately 0.5 × 0.5 m.
- At the bottom of the pit lay out the drainage layer from the broken brick.
- Submerge seedlings 6-8 cm deeper than they previously grew in a pot.
- Having laid the plant, you need to make sure that the neck of the root system is at the same level.
- It is necessary to cut the seedling to 7 cm.
- Pour 5 liters of water and fall asleep.
Sea buckthorn care
In order for the plant to bear many fruits and be healthy, you need to be able to care for it. It is necessary to feed the bush once every three years. It is necessary to take 10 kg of humus, 20-30 g of a mixture of phosphorus and potassium per 1 m² of land around the trunk.
Every year, the crown of the plant must be covered with manure, which is quail. You need about 20 kg of product. This stimulates the appearance of new root processes, which helps to better take root of sea buckthorn. The plant requires regular watering. Around the crown pour about 20-30 liters of water.
Trim the shoots of the bush in the spring, before the buds appear. Up to 4 years old branches are removed, the location of which is distinguished by randomness, which helps to give the crown a regular shape. Bushes that are more than eight years old are rejuvenated by pruning, removing shoots that are dried up or poorly bearing fruit.
Prevention also does not hurt. Shoots that have been broken off or suffered a disease are removed and destroyed in the fire. This will help protect the plant from pests.
Did you know? Sea buckthorn was used as a medicine in ancient China. And in 1977, the plant was officially listed in the Pharmacopoeia of China.
Summing up, we can say that this kind of sea buckthorn does not require much effort when planting and care. Its fruits are large and there are no thorns, which will simplify the harvest. And most importantly, all vitamins and acids are stored in them.
